Thank you Stephan!

Over the last few weeks, Stephan Raymond has produced over 2,000 kg of dry LSL strands to be shipped to Alberta for full-scale product trials. This Herculean task has involved Stephan stranding hundreds of narrow slabs provided by a partner sawmill and drying and packaging the strands for shipment.

Typically, trials in our lab require closer to 200 kg of strands, which are usually sourced from logs rather than slabs. Stephan has literally been swimming in strands all summer. He has done all this while maintaining the positive attitude for which we recognize him.

The objective of this task within the Sawmill to Construction vertical is to provide sawmills with an alternative to pulp chips.  As we know, a sawmill struggles when it can’t sell its chips to a pulp mill that has closed.

Preliminary work in the lab has demonstrated the technical feasibility of this process. With his effort, Stephan is supporting the production of full-sized panels to validate the techno-economic feasibility.

Thank you Stephan!
