This 2nd edition of the handbook is a compilation of erosion and sediment control practices to reduce the environmental impacts from resource roads and structures, fire salvage and trails, and includes general comments related to harvesting operations. A conscious effort was made to focus specifically on erosion and sediment control, and it is expected that operational decisions will also be based upon other considerations such as cost, productivity, familiarity with practices, etc.

The handbook will offer guidance for erosion prevention and sediment containment where the driving forces are rain and moving water. Erosion caused by wind and mass wasting processes will not be covered. Recommended practices are designed to be aligned with provincial and federal regulations that strengthen operating procedures to meet or exceed environmental management standards. This handbook includes references to research that directed best practice development and to guide the reader to additional useful information.
