Annual Report
2020-2021

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD AND THE PRESIDENT AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

By any measure, 2020 was an extraordinary year. Uncomfortable in its uncertainty, challenging in its economic instability, yet rewarding in its own way.

The pandemic had an effect on the world, on the forest industry, and certainly, on FPInnovations and its stakeholders. It was not business as usual.

FPInnovations evolved significantly over the past year. We were able to respond to and deliver on the needs of our members and partners faster than ever before – Needs that are driven by constantly fluctuating economic and societal environments.

At the core of FPInnovations’ resilience over the past year was its agility. Not just that of our strategy and operations, but also that of our employees. This agility allowed FPInnovations to quickly adapt to new realities and to assist its members and government partners with their goals towards a sustainable bioeconomy and increased competitiveness for a post-COVID-19 economic recovery.

FPInnovations’ agility was also portrayed through its the new Pulp & Paper membership structure that was redesigned to allow for maximum flexibility and increased return on investment for our members.

The past year also further proved the vital role that FPInnovations holds within the forestry industry. By being nimble and focused, we’ve had a significant impact on our members and their operations. And in line with our commitment towards transparent communications with them, we’ve carefully designed and unveiled the members’ portal that provides members with real-time information on their projects and membership details.

For the 2020-2021 fiscal year, FPInnovations maintained strong financial health under difficult conditions in order to ensure that FPInnovations continues to deliver cost-efficient, timely, and innovative solutions. We succeeded at stabilizing costs and focusing efforts to ensure we are delivering maximum impact on our members and the sector.

A special thank you to FPInnovations’ employees – our very own power team. Your dedication, passion, and hard work have been an inspiration to everyone, and are the reason why FPInnovations is what it is today: a strong leader in forest sector innovation.

Here’s to another exciting year,
