La concurrence mondiale s&rsquo;intensifie, les structures de co\u00fbts favorisent les concurrents internationaux, et les d\u00e9cisions d&rsquo;investissement prises aujourd&rsquo;hui d\u00e9termineront si les usines canadiennes conserveront leur place sur les march\u00e9s internationaux ou continueront \u00e0 c\u00e9der des parts de march\u00e9. Parall\u00e8lement, les usines de p\u00e2te kraft du secteur sont confront\u00e9es \u00e0 des d\u00e9fis en mati\u00e8re d&rsquo;efficacit\u00e9 \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique qui sont essentiels pour r\u00e9duire les co\u00fbts d&rsquo;exploitation. Le secteur canadien des p\u00e2tes et papiers figure parmi les 10 industries les plus intensives en gaz \u00e0 effet de serre [1]. La d\u00e9carbonisation des usines n\u00e9cessite des investissements, mais les \u00e9conomies r\u00e9alis\u00e9es gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la r\u00e9duction des co\u00fbts des combustibles fossiles et \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9vitement des taxes sur le carbone rendent ces investissements plus acceptables.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Le secteur canadien des p\u00e2tes et papiers utilise principalement des sources de biomasse (d\u00e9chets de bois et liqueurs us\u00e9es) pour son approvisionnement en combustible, mais l&rsquo;industrie utilise toujours des combustibles fossiles (figure 1). Les \u00e9missions de gaz \u00e0 effet de serre non biog\u00e9niques (combustion de combustibles fossiles) de l&rsquo;industrie pour l&rsquo;ann\u00e9e 2022 s&rsquo;\u00e9levaient \u00e0 8,1 Mt CO\u00b2<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> eq\/an (5,1 Mt CO\u00b2<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> eq\/an hors \u00e9lectricit\u00e9) [2], dont 4,9 Mt CO\u00b2<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> eq par an provenaient des usines de p\u00e2te \u00e0 papier (3,4 Mt CO\u00b2<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0eq par an hors \u00e9lectricit\u00e9) [3].<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image=\u00a0\u00bb304332&Prime; img_size=\u00a0\u00bbfull\u00a0\u00bb alignment=\u00a0\u00bbcenter\u00a0\u00bb css=\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0\u00bb][vc_column_text css=\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0\u00bb]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span class=\"TextRun SCXW112726614 BCX0\" lang=\"FR-CA\" xml:lang=\"FR-CA\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW112726614 BCX0\">Figure 1. En g\u00e9n\u00e9ral, les usines modernes consomment 50 % moins d&rsquo;\u00e9nergie thermique qu&rsquo;une usine de p\u00e2te kraft canadienne moyenne (usine moderne :\u00a0\u00a0~10 GJ\/t contre moyenne canadienne : ~20 GJ\/t) et consomment moins d&rsquo;eau (~10 m\u00b3<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\/t contre ~70 m\u00b3<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\/t) [4,5]. Au Canada, l\u2019usine kraft moyenne utilise des combustibles fossiles (principalement du gaz naturel) dans les fours \u00e0 chaux et pour la production d&rsquo;\u00e9nergie. La consommation d&rsquo;\u00e9nergie des fours \u00e0 chaux canadiens est en moyenne de 8,5 GJ\/t de chaux, contre 5,4 \u00e0 6,8 GJ\/t de chaux pour certaines usines modernes. La forte consommation d&rsquo;\u00e9nergie a un impact sur les co\u00fbts de production globaux (~5 contre ~50 $\/t) [6]. En conclusion, la modernisation est essentielle pour que les usines puissent d\u00e9carboniser leurs activit\u00e9s, mais aussi pour qu&rsquo;elles restent comp\u00e9titives. Cependant, les usines canadiennes doivent tenir compte de leur contexte global afin de choisir les options optimales qui leur permettront de d\u00e9carboniser leurs activit\u00e9s et de moderniser leurs op\u00e9rations.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">FPInnovations\u00a0a \u00e9tudi\u00e9 diff\u00e9rentes options pour moderniser les usines. La figure 2 pr\u00e9sente une vue d&rsquo;ensemble d&rsquo;une usine kraft modernis\u00e9e. Les voies de modernisation doivent tenir compte des \u00e9l\u00e9ments suivants :<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Augmenter l&rsquo;efficacit\u00e9 \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique. Cela est techniquement faisable, car cette solution a d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9t\u00e9 mise en \u0153uvre dans plusieurs usines \u00e0 travers le monde. La combustion solide semble \u00eatre la solution la plus appropri\u00e9e, car cette technologie est bien connue (plus de 10 installations dans le monde), n\u00e9cessite moins de capitaux, convient le mieux aux capacit\u00e9s moyennes des fours \u00e0 chaux canadiens et le processus est moins complexe que d&rsquo;autres options [7].<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Mettre en \u0153uvre des technologies nouvelles et \u00e9prouv\u00e9es afin de r\u00e9duire davantage la consommation d&rsquo;\u00e9nergie et de produits chimiques : membranes pour la concentration de la liqueur noire, d\u00e9lignification \u00e0 l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne, s\u00e9chage des boues de chaux, \u00e9vaporateurs plus efficaces, extraction de l\u2019huile de tall ou de la lignine (utilis\u00e9es en interne ou destin\u00e9es \u00e0 la vente), et bien d&rsquo;autres encore.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Le captage, l&rsquo;utilisation et le stockage du carbone (CCUS) pourraient jouer un r\u00f4le dans la d\u00e9carbonisation, et leur int\u00e9gration est techniquement faisable.
