Fibre supply

What are the problems faced by the industry in this area?
The availability of fibre is shrinking because of natural disasters and other land use constraints
The quality of the fibre resource is decreasing (tree size, fibre quality, salvage conditions)
Lack of fibre predictability because of inadequate forest inventory data

What does FPInnovations do to address the challenges?
Develop new approaches to maintain or increase fibre supply through partial cutting (e.g., commercial thinning) and accelerated regeneration after large catastrophic events
Develop and demonstrate zero-waste–integrated harvesting strategies and increased fibre/residue utilization approaches
Develop enhanced wildfire fighting and resource/community protection strategies
Develop responsive remote sensing solutions for better tactical and operational planning

Goals & Impacts

What are the goals to reach and what are the impacts on members?
Provide access to an additional 5 million m³ by 2023 using best practices and new techniques
Accelerate stand renewals and early growth to maintain or increase annual allowable cut levels
Protect forest resources and communities from increasing wildfire destruction
