For People Stuck in the Elevator

Ask the elevator company to
dial 911 if your situation worsens
1- Proceed to the elevator and make verbal contact with the trapped person(s).
2- Ask the trapped person(s) to:
- Identify themselves,
- Confirm how many people are inside, and
- Whether anyone requires medical attention.
3- If there is any risk to health or safety, immediately dial 911.
Provide the dispatcher with:
- Address: 2601 East Mall, Vancouver
- Number of people trapped, and
- The condition of the trapped person(s).
Do not hang up until the dispatcher confirms you may do so.
4- Call FPInnovations’ Emergency Measures Coordinator at 778-731-1610.

5- Maintain verbal contact with the trapped person(s).
6- Use the Public Announcement (PA) system to deliver the following message:
Attention all staff. The elevator is out of service. Do not use the elevator until further notice. Use stairways only.
7- Remain available to assist the Emergency Measures Coordinator as needed.
1- Contact the Building Supervisor and request that the elevator maintenance company be notified immediately.
2- Proceed to the elevator.
3- Ensure verbal contact is maintained with the trapped person(s).
4- Ensure the trapped person(s) do not attempt to open elevator doors.
5- Obtain an estimated response time from the Building Supervisor.
6- Ensure “Do Not Use Elevator” signage is clearly posted.
7- Authorize re-use of the elevator only after the maintenance company confirms it is safe
1- Contact the elevator maintenance company at 800-233-5757 for emergency repair. Obtain an estimated response time from them.
2- Proceed to the elevator.
3- Provide the maintenance company with updates on the elevator’s condition.
4- Post a “Do Not Use Elevator” signage.
5- Provide maintenance personnel and/or emergency responders with access to the elevator and mechanical spaces as required.
6- Assist the Emergency Measures Coordinator until the situation is resolved.
