1- Use the Public Announcement (PA) system to deliver the following message:
Earthquake – Attention all staff. An earthquake has been reported. Please remain calm and immediately DROP, COVER, and HOLD ON. Stay where you are until the shaking stops. If you need help, dial 911.
Tsunami – Attention all staff. A tsunami warning has been issued by official authorities. Please remain calm and move away from lower levels and stay on higher floors. Do not leave the building unless directed. Await further instructions.
Strong wind – Attention all staff. Severe wind conditions have been reported. Please stay indoors and keep away from windows and exterior doors. Avoid using entrances unless necessary. Await further instructions.
Flooding – Attention all staff. Local flooding has been reported. Please stay calm and move away from lower levels, basements, and any area where water is entering. Avoid contact with floodwater. Await further instructions.
2- Call FPInnovations’ Emergency Measures Coordinator at 778-731-1610.

3- Check whether any occupants are injured or require assistance.
1- Confirm the situation using available alerts and information (e.g. BC Emergency Alerts, UBC Alert, on-site observations).
2- Decide on the appropriate response based on the nature and severity of the incident and inform the Tenant Representative:
- Evacuation – Direct occupants to the muster point or a temporary reception area; or
- Shelter-in-place – Keep occupants inside the building when it is safer to remain indoors; or
- Higher-floor assembly – Used only if directed by emergency responders or when ground-level evacuation is unsafe.
3- Once the emergency situation is over, contact the Building Supervisor to initiate building condition checks and coordinate next steps.
1- When directed and when safe, conduct an inspection of the following:
- Building’s structural condition
- Electrical power
- Potable water
- Gas leaks or pressure system issues (e.g., natural gas)
- Fire separations (fire-rated walls, floors, doors that limit fire spread)
- Fire alarm panel operation
- Automatic sprinkler system status
- Emergency lighting systems
- Heating and ventilation systems
- Elevator status
- Computer server room condition
- External site hazards
2- Report findings promptly to the Emergency Measures Coordinator and support follow-up actions as conditions allow.
